Rafael Matas

Rafael is a Lead Investment Officer, Infrastructure at IDB Invest, which he joined in 2016. He is responsible for originating and structuring financing operations in the transportation, energy, water and sanitation, and social infrastructure sectors. Rafael worked at the IDB Group since 2007. He has structured complex transactions for renewable energy, transportation, water, sanitation and social infrastructure in Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil. Before joining the IDB Group, he worked at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) in Hong Kong; and was Relations Manager at BBVA in China. This experience enabled him to hone his skills in corporate finance transactions. Rafael has more than 14 years of experience in the financial services industry in sustainable development projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. Rafael earned a master’s degree in international relations from Georgetown University (USA) and a master’s degree and a professional degree in international law (LL.M.) from ESADE Business School (Spain).
