Rivers, Not Roads: Electric River Transport for a Thriving Amazon

Solar Rivers, an Indigenous-led initiative implemented by Kara Solar in Ecuador, replaces fossil fuel-based river transport with solar-powered boats and community-managed charging stations across the Amazon.

This document explains how road construction drives deforestation, with 95% of forest loss occurring within 5 km of roads and quantifies the projected environmental damage of a proposed road in Ecuador.

As an alternative, Solar Rivers provides clean, locally managed transport and energy systems that strengthen bioeconomy, enhance Indigenous autonomy, and help prevent deforestation.
