The IDB, IDB Invest, and CCIT promote training for SMEs in Honduras

  • A New Business Advisory Initiative Will Benefit 150 SMEs
  • Training will include resilience, decision-making, and conflict resolution.

WASHINGTON — The IDB and its private sector arm, IDB Invest, together with the Tegucigalpa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIT), are launching a business advisory initiative to strengthen the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) ecosystem in Honduras, promote entrepreneurship, support the reintegration of migrants, and provide resources and skills to women entrepreneurs.

This new program is made possible through the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi). It aligns with the strategic priorities of the Government of Honduras and IDB Invest to support SMEs—a key pillar for socioeconomic development and job creation.

The initiative aims to benefit 150 businesses by providing practical tools for formalization, business launch, and growth. The program will also include training in business resilience, decision-making, and conflict resolution, contributing to sustainable job and income generation in the country and the socioeconomic reintegration of migrants.

The initiative will be supported by US$270,000 in funding, including a US$150,000 contribution from IDB Invest and US$120,000 from the IDB. These non-reimbursable resources will enable the implementation of specialized technical assistance, in coordination with the IDB’s Migration Unit.

Thanks to We-Fi’s support, at least 50% of the beneficiary businesses will be women-led. The program will be implemented by CCIT, a business association with extensive experience strengthening Honduras’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
