Project scope and objective
The Project located in the State of Sergipe in the north east region of Brazil. It consists on the design, construction and operation of a 1500-MW combined cycle natural gas power plant, a 33-km transmission line and associated facilities (including an offshore regasification plant, a submarine pipeline and water intake and sewage pipes), “the Project”. The total cost of the Project is approximately USD 1,300 million. It is anticipated that the IDB/IIC financing will include a combination or Brazilian Reais and American Dollars for an equivalent amount of USD 238 million.
The IIC and Inter-American Development Bank Group will provide long term financing in Brazilian Reais, which are not available in the market. The plant will be the largest thermal power plant in South America. This plant will increase Brazil’s actual energy capacity and will help reduce carbon emissions in replacing oil and coal-based power plants with high levels of carbon emission.
Environmental and social review
IDB Invest conducts an environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) commensurate with the nature, scale, and stage of the project, and with its level of environmental and social risks and impacts. The ESDD will confirm the project E&S categorization and assess the project with respect to the client requirements in IDB Invest Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. The results of the ESDD, including any identified gaps are described in the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) provided below. Any gaps with respect to the IDB Invest Sustainability Policy at the time of the ESDD are addressed in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) provided below.
This section provides the key environmental and social assessment documents produced by the client for this project.
