Project scope and objective
The APP La Dorada – Chiriguaná Railway Corridor is a strategic initiative led by the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) to reactivate freight rail transport in Colombia, promoting intermodality and logistical efficiency. The project involves the construction, rehabilitation, improvement, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of a railway corridor of approximately 525 kilometers, connecting the municipalities of La Dorada (Caldas) and Chiriguaná (Cesar), and crossing five departments and twenty-five municipalities. It also includes the modernization of administrative and operational infrastructure, such as control buildings, workshops, communication and signaling systems, as well as the construction of logistics centers for cargo transfer.
The scope of the project covers three main functional units: (1) the rehabilitation and operation of the railway corridor and its branches, (2) the construction and operation of administrative and operational control infrastructure, and (3) the logistics infrastructure for cargo transfer services. The project aims to strengthen connectivity between the country’s center and the Caribbean coast, boost foreign trade, energize local economies, and improve road and pedestrian safety in the areas of influence. It also encourages the hiring of local labor, the participation of regional suppliers, and the improvement of educational infrastructure, contributing to environmental sustainability through the reduction of CO₂ emissions and efficient resource use.
