Twelve heads of state and 700 private sector leaders to attend III CEO Summit of the Americas

The III CEO Summit, the most important event of its kind in the Americas, will bring together more than 12 heads of state and 700 senior corporate leaders from the hemisphere to analyze opportunities that promote more growth and investments.

The III CEO Summit will focus on two key themes: more transparency as a key ingredient for growth, and “Made in the Americas,” which underscores the potential of value chains in the hemisphere and the importance of public-private dialogue to promote investments, facilitate trade and sustainable development.

The III CEO Summit will be inaugurated by the President of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, and the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno. In addition, the following Heads of State and of Government have confirmed their participation: Danilo Medina of the Dominican Republic, Evo Morales of Bolivia, Juan Carlos Varela of Panama, Juan Orlando Hernández of Honduras, Hubert Minnis of Bahamas, Lenín Moreno of Ecuador, Justin Trudeau of Canada, Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia, Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico, Mauricio Macri of Argentina and Sebastián Piñera of Chile.

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Special Advisor to the President, Ivanka Trump, will also address the Summit.

The agenda includes panels with senior executives from IBM, Mercado Libre, Microsoft, Grupo Britt, Google, UPS, Grupo Sura, Walmart, and ScotiaBank, among others. The Summit is sponsored by AES, Citi, Coca-Cola, DHL, Facebook, Google, IBM, Invest in Canada, Lexis Nexis, Microsoft, PepsiCo and Walmart. IDB experts provided technical reports for each panel.

The first CEO Summit was held in Cartagena, Colombia, in 2012. The second CEO Summit took place in Panama City, in 2015.

The III CEO Summit is organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with support from the government of Peru and the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (known by its Spanish acronym CONFIEP). It is part of the activities leading up to the VIII Summit of the Americas.

The CEO Summit operates under the Americas Business Dialogue (ABD) mechanism. Led by the private sector and facilitated by the IDB, the ABD looks to promote public-private high-level dialogue between business and government leaders, focusing on priorities, challenges and opportunities to bring more development to the region.

The ABD also acts as a consulting mechanism for the private sector for the Americas summit process. It will present to the heads of state its report that contain specific recommendations and action plans for the 2018-2021 period. More than 300 companies and business associations organized in ten working groups to prepare the recommendations.

The event can be viewed on livestream, in English and in Spanish.
