• Anchor investment in a social bond of up to US$20 million aims to help women entrepreneurs scale their businesses

WASHINGTON – IDB Invest announced its participation as an anchor investor for up to US$20 million equivalent in Peruvian soles in the first issuance of social bonds by Compartamos Banco S.A., to expand access to financing for micro and small businesses owned and/or led by women, especially in vulnerable regions.

The project seeks to help women entrepreneurs scale their businesses and access better financial conditions.

As an anchor investor, IDB Invest aims to facilitate the participation of other investors for up to US$20 million in soles. In addition, IDB Invest will evaluate a second investment of up to US$20 million equivalent in soles. The funds will be allocated exclusively to finance individual loans for women entrepreneurs, strengthening Compartamos’ role as a key player in access to financing in the country.

IDB Invest also provided technical assistance to Compartamos for the design of the bond’s conceptual framework, obtaining a Second Party Opinion (SPO), and will provide technical assistance for the implementation of an impact indicator dashboard with a special focus on the Amazon region. These tools will enable Compartamos to improve data collection, client monitoring, identification of improvement opportunities, and strategic decision-making, strengthening its value proposition and institutional capacity.

Through this transaction, IDB Invest reaffirms its commitment to financial health and the development of Peru’s capital markets, improving economic opportunities in the country.
