IDB Invest launches its first Australian dollar bond to support COVID response in Latin America and the Caribbean

IDB Invest, a member of the IDB Group, rated AAA/Aa1/AA, placed a new 15-year COVID-19 response bond for the amount of 140 million Australian dollars (AUD), equivalent to USD 100 million, to support its coronavirus response in Latin America and the Caribbean. The transaction is IDB Invest’s first issuance in Australian dollars and its longest maturity bond to date. Sumitomo Life Insurance is the sole investor of the bond, with Deutsche Bank and Toronto Dominion acting as joint lead managers.

This issuance will contribute to funding IDB Invest’s response to the coronavirus pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through its general corporate activities, IDB Invest aims to contribute up to USD 7 billion in financing to counter the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, including USD 5 billion in long-term investments and USD 2 billion in trade finance operations. IDB Invest intends to focus on companies impacted by the crisis, directing funding to health and health-related sectors, infrastructure, as well as access to short-term lending for small and medium-sized enterprises through financial institutions, supply chain and trade finance.
