IDB Invest Convenes More Than 800 Global Leaders in the Heart of the Amazon to Share Solutions for the Planet

  • IDB Invest's Sustainability Week attracts CEOs, officials, and specialists worldwide to generate concrete actions from the private sector

MANAUS, Brazil - The Brazilian city of Manaus hosts IDB Invest's Sustainability Week 2024, a global platform for sustainable business. In addition to inspiring action and facilitating knowledge exchange, the event seeks to unite global and regional leaders in co-creating viable solutions for the Amazon, the region, and the planet.

The hybrid meeting will bring together more than 800 global leaders in person in Manaus (Brazil) and more than 10,000 participants virtually. Latin America and the Caribbean face significant challenges, such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. However, it also has the potential to contribute to solving critical global challenges such as food insecurity, the energy transition, and environmental services.

Convened by IDB Invest, the arm of the IDB Group that works with the private sector, the Manaus meeting is a unique opportunity to unleash the power of collaboration and exponentially increase the impact on development.

"If we want to solve the most pressing problems within and outside the Amazon region, we must think locally, act globally, and do things differently," said James Scriven, CEO of IDB Invest, during his opening speech. "That's why, during this Sustainability Week, we are starting this movement to scale impact. We have brought together people who take action, experts, and impact creators to generate solutions and advance one of the most urgent challenges of our time."

During the three days, attendees will discuss topics of Impact Investment, Climate Change, Amazon, Inclusion, and Bioeconomy, highlighting the commitment of the IDB Group, its partners, stakeholders, clients, and investors to co-create impact in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the role of the private sector as a driver of sustainable growth.

Ilan Goldfajn, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); James Scriven, General Manager of IDB Invest; Luiz Gabriel Azevedo, General Director of IDB Invest Strategy (a.i.); and Tatiana Schor, Head of the Amazon Unit, will attend the meeting.
