IDB Invest and Danper Boost Peru's Agro-Export Chain with a Focus on Gender Inclusion

  • Fintech platform will help expand access to financing for MSMEs, with incentives for those led by women.
  • We-Fi will promote capacity building to strengthen the management and leadership of women in MSMEs.

IDB Invest provided a loan of up to $35 million to Danper, a Peruvian agro-industrial company, to increase agricultural production and drive export growth. The project will support Danper's efforts to strengthen its supply chain by increasing purchases from local suppliers, including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Over the next four years, from 2024 to 2028, Danper is projected to source an average of $115 million annually from these local suppliers.

The financing is comprised of a loan of up to $25 million over 10 years to improve Danper's productivity, and a credit line of up to $10 million for its suppliers to advance invoice collection through the Fintech platform Efactor Network. This will facilitate access to financing for MSMEs led by women, projecting advances of $14 million in 2026.

IDB Invest, through the Women Entrepreneurs Financing Initiative (We-Fi), is providing technical assistance that includes the measurement of the Multidimensional Poverty Index to 300 artichoke farmers. This is aimed at strengthening the management of Danper's suppliers and promoting the development and empowerment of women in its value chain.

The assistance is complemented by training in agricultural practices, leadership, and support to create women-led cooperatives, thus facilitating their growth. In addition, IDB Invest will collaborate in the development of an inclusive procurement strategy that increases the participation of women-led MSMEs in Danper's supply chain.

The deal is expected to contribute to the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
