WASHINGTON — IDB Invest announced its participation in El Salvador’s first public issuance of blue bonds, led by Bancoagrícola. This transaction aims to expand access to financing for projects that promote sustainability, responsible water management, and marine ecosystem conservation.

The issuance is part of a program of up to $200 million and will be divided into three tranches: the first, for $10 million, will be subscribed by IDB Invest; the second, for $10 million; and the third, for $5 million, will include international co-investors such as LAGreen Fund, managed by Finance in Motion. The dollar-denominated bonds will be listed on the Salvadoran Stock Exchange under the Green, Social, and Sustainable Bond Issuance Guidelines.

The blue bond issuance represents an opportunity to diversify financing sources in El Salvador and strengthen the local capital market, positioning the country as a regional benchmark in financial innovation and sustainability.

In addition to financing, IDB Invest provided technical advisory services to strengthen Bancoagrícola’s sustainable finance strategy, including the development of its sustainability framework and the implementation of practices aligned with international ISSB S1 and S2 standards. This support enables Bancoagrícola to build internal capacity to offer financial and non-financial solutions for priority sectors such as the blue economy, renewable energy, and circular economy, and to channel resources toward projects with measurable environmental benefits, particularly those related to responsible water use.

With this transaction, IDB Invest and Bancoagrícola set a milestone in the region, promoting financial innovation and environmental sustainability in El Salvador.
