IDB Invest and BanBif Boost Sustainable Projects with Subordinated Bond Issuance
WASHINGTON — IDB Invest announced its participation in the issuance of subordinated bonds by Banco Interamericano de Finanzas (BanBif) for up to $20 million to expand financing for sustainable projects in Peru.
The transaction will enable BanBif to grow its sustainable portfolio, which includes projects in energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation, agriculture, and circular economy. The portfolio is expected to increase at an annual rate of 14.8% between 2025 and 2028.
The structure includes IDB Invest’s subscription of an initial series for up to $20 million, with co-investors expected to participate in a second issuance for up to an additional $20 million.
Peru has made progress in developing an environmental taxonomy and implementing Basel III, creating opportunities to strengthen bank capital through subordinated instruments and promote sustainable investments.
IDB Invest will also provide technical advisory services to enhance BanBif’s risk management. These measures reinforce BanBif’s and IDB Invest’s commitment to sustainability and the adoption of best governance practices.
With this operation, IDB Invest reaffirms its commitment to promoting access to financing and sustainable development in Peru, contributing to resilience and strengthening the country’s capital markets.
