Project scope and objective
The Project involves the construction and operation of the "Centro Médico Jerovia", a new tertiary level hospital with 175 beds (expandable to 240) to be located on a 10-hectare site owned by Centro Médico Jerovia in the city of Asunción, Paraguay, with approximately 44,983 m2 of construction that will include state-of-the-art equipment and technology. In addition, a new Prepaid Medicine company will be created whose members will be treated at the new hospital.
The cost of the project is estimated at approximately US$250 million and will be financed by a combination of equity contribution, IDB Invest debt financing (up to 40% of the project costs in the case of IDB Invest's direct participation), and third-party financing.
The Jerovia Medical Center, in partnership with Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, will offer Paraguay and the entire region a high level of medical services, infrastructure, equipment, and highly trained and qualified medical personnel for the care and well-being of the population.

Environmental and social review
IDB Invest conducts an environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) commensurate with the nature, scale, and stage of the project, and with its level of environmental and social risks and impacts. The ESDD will confirm the project E&S categorization and assess the project with respect to the client requirements in IDB Invest Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy. The results of the ESDD, including any identified gaps are described in the Environmental and Social Review Summary (ESRS) provided below. For projects approved as of 2016, any gaps with respect to IDB Invest's Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy at the time of the ESDD are addressed in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) presented below, to comply with the date mentioned above.
