Building Socioemotional Skills by Playing: Experimental Evidence from Brazil

While school programs are increasingly promoting the development of socioemotional skills and using games to promote learning, there is still limited rigorous evidence of the causal impacts of such interventions. We conducted a large-scale randomized control trial looking at the impacts of the MindLab program in Brazil, a well-known methodology designed in Israel and adopted in over 21 countries, that uses games to promote learning. Results show no significant program impacts at the average level, but highlight large heterogeneities across participating municipalities
